Artist Statements
50 Pieces:
The concept of my pieces embodied texture, for that there are multiple methods of achieving different types which are seemingly endless. This semester, I experimented with press molds, bending the concepts of them until I created something entirely different then say just a shell or a cluster of grapes. The press molds allowed me to create texture and body to my pieces the way hand building was limiting me. Texture is visible in all 50 pieces and it is the basis of my whole concept.

The press molds allowed me to create texture and body to my pieces the way hand building was limiting me. Texture is visible in all 50 pieces and it is the basis of my whole concept.
During the development
of my concept, I feel as if it took off as soon as I experimented with the
textures which I was able to achieve with the press molds. The press molds I
was drawn to most was the sea shell and grape cluster, and the press molds
themselves were created by the ceramic artist, Kate Maury. After much research,
I became heavily inspired by her work and developed my own aesthetic through
the use of press molds, research, and the ability to create texture.
Sound Sculpture:
The concept of my piece really surrounded balance as well as tranquility. I feel as if once balance is found, then that is when a tranquil state tends to begin. I chose to do a three layered piece, with the biggest one on the bottom, medium sized in the middle, and smallest on the top. This was to form a barque-esque fountain, which is why I chose the sound of a water fountain. The baroque style is where I drew my inspiration for this piece. Baroque style uses metallics such as gold and silver which is why I chose to use a metallic glaze for my piece. My overall goal for this piece was for the viewer to achieve a tranquil state through the sight of balance, then their mind begins to go into a tranquil state due to the sight and sound.
